12:00PM – 1:00PM

The lecture uses framing theory to analyze and explain trends in Western media coverage of Israel and the Middle East. It addresses issues such as scope, news value, use of sources, censorship, biases, omissions and commentary. It presents evidence from several cases of warfare, civil wars, terrorism, revolutions and counter- revolutions, failed states, foreign interventions, etc. The findings raise questions, both professional and ethical, about the media conduct and performance and suggest a few remedies.
