A Drop to Drink:  A Case Study in Resolving Water Scarcity and Quality Issues” at the Morrison Institute

The Middle East is the world’s most water stressed region. Most of the countries cannot meet current water demand. Israel’s water crisis led to the realization that a national master plan for policy, institutional and technological changes is required to manage the water sector more efficiently. The objectives of the water master plan include supplementing natural potable water use with water from other sources, further decreasing the existing domestic per capita water consumption, doubling the desalinated sea water provisions to the national grid and doubling the quantity of treated effluents for irrigation in the agricultural sector. The lecture will describe the current situation, policies and technologies which are used to achieve the targets of Israel’s water master plan.
